ACHIEVEMENTS OF GUJARAT (by: Keval Jani)

18th, 19th & 20th Centuries were full of ideology to develop maximum power, energy and industries at cost of resources but when it came to shortage of resources, now 21st century and maybe upcoming few will be having ideology to exploit maximum output with minimum resources. After a prolonged research on energy sector, it has come to notice that Gujarat state of India is heavily leading in the race of energy development. Solar power is one of the fastest developing industries in Gujarat, as the state was one of the first states to develop solar power generation plants. Presently Gujarat has installed 7,645 MW of renewable energy in the state and it counts for around 28% of the total consumption. Achievements of Gujarat in energy sector have proved to be remarkable. The state is on the way to have power production of 18,000+ MW within upcoming few years. Almost no village in the state is left without electricity connection and cities in the state are having comparatively better power supply than big cities like Mumbai, Delhi and the silicon valley of India - Bangalore. The state has also come out with Solar-wind hybrid policy and another achievement of 4-5 such hybrid parks is to take place with at least 2000 MW capacity. Gujarat is on the way to direction of renewable sources of energy and the government has rightly identified to limit it's exposure to fossil fuel based generation of energy as it effects the trade account deficit of the nation. State is all set to escalate it's production for renewable sources of energy. At present the state has 9,670 MW renewable energy production out of which wind energy source contributes 70% and rest 30% goes to solar power sector. Gujarat is leading not only in terms of Indians states but it is leading states like New Jersey and Ohio. New Jersey has 2500+ MW production of renewable energy sources, which is just near to 1/4 of Gujarat's production. On other hand, Ohio has got only 1000 MW renewable energy production and around 1500 MW production facility is under development, so presently Ohio has only 10% renewable energy production compared to the Indian state of Gujarat. Figures are enough to say for the achievements of the state. Within upcoming decade or two Gujarat's scale of renewable energy would be massive and it would easily overtake energy production of France, Greece and various such nations. Dedication towards the development is the biggest reason behind such achievements of Gujarat.
